Cyber Aces Competition Seeks Next Generation of Cybersecurity Experts: Mashable

Alex Fitzpatrick wrote for Mashable on an interesting idea: find the “next generation of American offensive and defensive cybersecurity experts” through a video game.  That, in simplest terms, is the jist behind Cyber Aces.  According to Fitzpatrick, Cyber Aces is “a series of experimental state competitions that use a videogame to target participants with the right skills — a mixture of a deep understanding of networking, operating systems and systems administration — to receive a $25,000 scholarship for National Security Agency-level cybersecurity training.”

While a 17-year-old high school senior was the winner of one scholarship, the article notes that a 55-year-old veteran with little prior pentest experience was the winner of another.  While the focus is likely on younger people, it’s nice to see the competition is open to an older crowd as well.

Here’s the Cyber Aces website.
