Iran Shows Off Captured U.S. Drone, Swears It’s Not Fake: Wired

Well, Iran just released video of…something.  It looks like a RQ-170 drone, but who knows.

On Dec. 8th, 2011, Adam Rawnsley wrote for Wired on the implications of this video.  Basically, this video could mean nothing.  The Iranians claim that it's the RQ-170 drone, but that claim also means nothing.  Rawnsley humorously notes that "it’s also worth keeping in mind that the country showing off this footage is also the same one that once welded together oil drums in an attempt to convince the world it had gotten its hands on sophisticated Russian air-defense missiles."  The rest of the article is worth a look, at least to understand Iran's history of propoganda.

The article mentions that a CIA team is analyzing the video.  We'll see what comes of that.

Again, I'm interested in this story for it's cyber implications.  If this drone is authenticated (somehow), and it looks relatively in shape (as it does in the video), there's a chance the Iranians brought it down with a cyberattack.  The video is below.  Note the American flag with the skulls…can't say they don't know how to put on a good show.

Considering the claims that it was brought down… it certainly appears in really good shape.
