On Jan. 20th, 2012, the Washington Post reported that lawmakers have shelved both SOPA and PIPA, two pieces of controversial anti-piracy legislation. I waited a few days to post this story because Rep. Lamar Smith (SOPA's sponsor) already shelved SOPA once; Smith put it back on the markup schedule a few days later. It remains to be seen whether SOPA/PIPA will stay shelved.
According to the Washington Post article, Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid delayed a cloture vote on PIPA, the Senate version of the legislation. Rep. Lamar Smith followed by indefinitely postponing consideration of SOPA.
