CyberCom Elevation To Command On SecDef’s Desk; Sen. Levin Cautions Pentagon (AolDefense)

Colin Clark reported for AolDefense on CyberComm’s possible elevation to full combatant command status.  For the past few months, we’ve been hearing that elevation is likely to happen, and according to Clark, the order is sitting on the SecDef’s desk.  However, it appears that the elevation isn’t all that certain.  Notably, Sen. Carl Levin had concerns about CyberComm’s elevation given “the immaturity of the command and cyber policy framework.”  The AolDefense article noted that, surprisingly, JCS Chairman Gen. Dempsey agreed: “In 2020, I’m sure people will say, of course, it should be an independent command. We just aren’t there yet.”

Finally, Clark left us with this interesting note: “lawmakers are loathe to see elevation of Gen. Keith Alexander‘s command until he is gone.”
