Chemicals And Defense Firms Targeted By Hacking Attack: BBC

On October 31st, 2011, BBC reported on how cybersecurity firm Symantec has found that at least 29 firms involved in the chemicals industry and 19 firms involved in the defense industry have been hit by cyberattacks.  Some of these firms came from the Fortune 100.  In what has been a pretty common theme lately, Symantec managed to trace the attacks back to you-know-who: China.  The attacks (dubbed 'Nitro') began in late July and lasted until mid-September, focused on intellectual property, and utilized a trojan called 'Poison Ivy' to gain access to and ultimately compromise the targeted networks.
